Go Cayetano Lancers! (≧∇≦)

Finally after almost 4 months of preparation it's almost the time of our competition!
Even we couldn't believe how time flies by so fast!

Why Cayetano Lancers and not other names?

A lancer is a cavalry soldier using a weapon called a "lance" (a long weapon with a metal point) riding atop of a horse's back. They are most agile among warriors in battle and they can be playful with a carefree attitude approach. But when it comes to work, they are serious and quick especially when it comes to battle. Overall, that is what describes our team. Though we are of different social circles, we all have this common factor and together we believe anything is possible in the game.

As promised, here's the full list of Cayetano Lancers:
  • Jean Nicole Rodriguez (Grade 8)
  • Hazel Formes (Third Year)
  • Martin Santelices (Third Year)
  • Daryl Joe Santos (Third Year)
  • Chad Marvin Azuelo (Fourth Year)
  • Peter Paul Perez (Fourth Year)
  • Rae Beatrice Palmaria (Fourth Year)
  • Neil Buenaflor (Fourth Year)
  • Dominique Dagunton (Fourth Year)
  • Joshua Cuballes (Fourth Year)

Finishing touches before the contest?
Here it is! Obviously not yet done. Surprise, surprise how are things going to be?
Next week is our game. Exactly 6 days from now!
Can't wait to start and play all day!
Everything is finally finished -- almost
We have finally completed our 10-member team and we'll posting the list very soon!
Watch out for that and for more updates go to our Facebook Page.
Also watch out for what our robot can do!

Now, who doesn't love using spray paint?
But remember not to much of it!

Sembreak ? ? ?

Though it is a Tuesday, we don't have classes because it is our semester break. The concept of letting high school, elementary and kindergarten students having this is still a question. For us it's just another time to goof-off and do anything we want before November 1 and 2. Random thoughts.

Six members of the team went back to school to catch up on the tests they missed. No worries though, the results were good enough and were still in the range of how our scores usually are. After all that we still got to talk about the other plans for our robot. Currently, all boards that we will used is at our school in our tool kit. However, our robot's frame is with our designer so that he can start with the base and for us to just add the finishing touches once school starts again.

Don't get us wrong though, for the second time we went to school for our robot and not once did we regret doing that and surely we won't regret making this decision as well! We prioritize this so much and seeing our robot move is already a HUGE achievement for us!

Let the countdown begin!
21 days until Tagisang Robotics 2013!

Friday

Last day of the week and we finally got our desired outcome!
Just this morning, we finally got the frame for our robot. Next steps we need to take is to finish its outside cover and make it look the best we can!

Here's our complicated frame!!!

Here's where we'll really start!

By the afternoon, we tried using our old wiper motors for our robot with the new boards just to try out if it can move and just to know if the codes were right. Well it did work but not as fast as we expected. As we could remember, our wiper motor were also badly affected and need repair (if it is still possible). If it won't work properly, we have no choice but to replace it with a new one or be creative and think of another way to make it faster than it is now.

Good luck to us!

Wednesday

Remember how we lack members?
Well today was a day to put our recruits to the test. For today, the Robotics Team were searching for the next designer, driver and human shooter. Maybe it is early to start looking for our replacements but better doing it now than never! We have everything in place and for now we were at our school's computer lab with everything we need set-up.

For our aspiring robot drivers, we have two sets of tests. One is them play a computer game and the other is by playing with remote-controlled cars through an obstacle we made! Of course, we wouldn't be making something boring. That's not how our team works. We work hard and play hard!

Our recruits for the next designer of our team's robot

As for our robot designers they are also tasked to do two jobs. First is to make a draft of their design on paper following the rules on dimensions (2ft x 2ft x 2ft). After that they should be able to make a graphic sketch of it using Google SketchUp and then try to make it our of colored paper. Though the task maybe hard, it looks as though all the first phase was a success. We saw amazing designs which would hard for us to make a decision.

While the recruits were doing their jobs, we had to resume to our jobs as well!

Tuesday

After long hours of preparation and planning, it's time for us to finally put it to the test. It's the second day of our whole-week of Robotics and we're all pumped up to start! Since yesterday, the team has 8 official members and it's time to put up another recruitment for today.

By the way, the newest addition to our group is none other than Grade 8 student, Jean Nicole Rodriguez! We are all happy to have her as a part of the team and surely she'll be a big help to us. Since we first met her last March, she has proven her skills and wit when it comes to the situations our team have experienced so far. She is also willing to know all the parts but is mostly focused on wiring and programming. Who knows maybe she'll be the next team captain of our school's Robotics Team two years from now? She is definitely someone to watch out for!

Go Team Captain!
For now, all members of the team have their specific tasks to perform. Our team captain, Joshua Cuballes, was studying and figuring out the other things he can do with our robot. He also tried to work out D.A.V.E. (our previous robot) again but sadly it didn't turn out as planned because of some trouble with our old circuit boards. Anyway, with our new robot that is on the works we'll try to make an even better robot. One that is faster than the first one!

Meanwhile, our very talented designer Dominique Dagunton is almost done with the graphic design of our robot. Well at least the frame of it is done. Things left to do are putting it into something real and of course the outside covering of our robot. This time around, it is VERY different from our first robot. It's taller, wider and it's DEFINITELY an original design. Unlike last year, we planned to focus more on the mechanism of our robot rather than its design. The pictures below are just a taste of what's more to come!

Right Side View and Back View

In our team, we all serve more than one purpose. Not because one is the driver, he can't be a designer and not because one is a shooter he can't be in charge of wiring. That is not how our team work. Just like most of the idea of our robot design came from our driver, Neil Buenaflor and Chad Azuelo and is put to reality by our talented designer. They were the one who thought of "playing" with the design and the possible extensions on the robot. Our human shooter, Peter Perez, on the other hand was the one who designed our team shirt.

Thursday

As of today we still haven't received our 24V Hybrid Motor Drivers. So for now, the Robotics Team had a short meeting on our design and plans for the game. Of course, we had a little fun playing with wires and setting up tricks for our schoolmates.

( ´ ▽ ` )

Here's what some of the members were doing for today
Meanwhile, our captain was busy studying the program he'll be using for our robot. The others were busy fixing (or rather reminiscing the good old times) our old kits and practically getting everything out of it. The Robotics team really doesn't have a room so we constantly move from one place to another. But it's fine with us, actually better than what we had last year.

Oh look, there's D.A.V.E.!!! (and our messy stuffs)

Game Kick-Off

Game Kick-off Day!
 O(≧∇≦)O

Four representatives of the SRCCMSTHS Robotics Team, namely Rae Beatrice Palmaria, Domnique Dagunton, Peter Paul Perez, and the team captain Joshua Cuballes, along with their new Team Coach, Ms. Judith Bagasin attended the game kick-off at the National Institute of Physics in the University of the Philippines – Diliman Campus.

DOST-SEI Director Dr. Filma Brawner for the Opening Remarks
It was exciting to get back to the game and start building our robot again. Seeing our competitors, both old and new, brought back the thrill just how it was last year. The only difference this year is that we're ready with more tricks up our sleeves. In our second year of competing, the nervousness is still there but we are more eager to finally bring home the trophy. We may have some troubles on the way considering we still lack three more members on our team. Looks like the search is on!

We're all looking forward on our competition this year!!!!
